RE: In Line battery shut off

The safest way is to disconnect the positive side. If you disconnect the negative, you still have power to all of the positive sides of the loads. If you accidentally ground the positive side you can short the line.
The standard convention is to fuse all of the positive feeds and the negative is a common ground.

RE: New GMC 2005, never titeled. Is that a problem??

I would look at it as a low mileage used vehicle and not pay any more than average retail for it.

RE: 2007 Tundra Crewmax & Cougar 29BHS

While you may be under weight with estimates, the ONLY to know for sure is to weight it. Personally I would not pull that long of a trailer with a 1/2 ton truck.

RE: Living in Cold Winter Months

We have lived in our previuos 5er (a 4-season unit) down to 17 dF. It will do it but you will use lots of propane. Personallt, I'd hook that sucker up and head south untill the weather was warmer.

RE: Buyers remorse?

It seems that the newer the RV, there is less usable storage in the unit. RV manufactures make big pretty boxes with lots of wall space and windows trying to mimick a stick House. The RV manufacturers have gotten pretty stupid in my opinion.

RE: Am I being scammed???(UPDATE - IT GETS BETTER!)

My daughter had to have her Mazda MPV towed with a blown wwater pump seal. She got a call from the dealer telling her that she needed a front end alignment, new shocks and new tires as well. The tires were less than 3 weeks old and had total of about 300 miles on them. She told the service writer that he needed to go back and make sure thay were working on the correct blue van because hers had new tires.
The tires were wearing evenly from the old ones and it rode fine. I have seen them time and time again, give these people BS stories...what a bunch of crooks.
last time they tried the dirty air filter on me, ...yes it had surface dirt on it, I took the filter walked out the front door, slapped on the wall a couple of time and told him that it looked fine to me. It had about 5000 miles on it.

RE: Still Confused about single vs Dually

Jimbo, I have a 3500 SRW truck and it pulls our trailer just fine. Our trailer weighs 12k loaded. If I was going to be towing a 16k trailer I would have a DRW truck without a doubt. The only reason I went with a SRW truck now is because I have to park in a parking garage at work and a DRW would have been hard to do. Once we retire I intend to get a DRW truck.
His trailer is some 4000# less than your trailer. At 16,000#, you will have a pin weight of about 3200#. Work out the numbers and ignore what the dealers tell you.
In my opinion, I would get a 1 ton dually as a minimum for a 16,000# 5er.
They make big trucks for big trailers and little trucks fro little trailers. A 16,000# 5er is not a small trailer.

RE: Brake Controller...Is there a difference??

If you want the best, go with a BrakeSmart. Th Prodigy controllers are really not much more than the old inertia controllers with electronics which allow a boost and ramp up.
Prodigy is better than nothing though.

I would offer 35% off and leave if they balked. They will balk, but let them sit on it for a few days and I bet they will call with a better deal.

RE: 2008 Chevy Suburban

First off, with a 30' trailer, the Burb should be a 2500 or 3/4 ton series with the towing package.
I would not get a 1/2 Burb for the trailer.

RE: Am I being scammed???(UPDATE - IT GETS BETTER!)

If your tires were not wearing unevenly, no real reason for a front end alignment.
recently we had this scam pulled at NTB....They wanted over $100 for a 1 year guareanteed alignment, then when the car was on the rack, hit my wife up fro $300.00 for a rear camber kit. When she called, I told her to take the car and leave.
I took it up to the local mechanic with a front end alignment machine and head hin checl it. 4-wheel alignment was $49.96, and no rear camber kit. He said the rear was a little off, but within spec.
The tire shops are for tires and that is all.

RE: Hitch conversions, good or bad?

From an engineering stand point, the goose neck adapters, are a really poor idea. You can get any 2nd year engineering student to look at it and see that you will impart additional stresses on the pin box attachment area of the trailer. If it is not designed for a GN, it can create problems. If I owned an RV store, I would not allow on on the lot.

RE: Ford and GM top execs refuse salary cut!

Ford and GM need to show those clowns the door. They say that they need top manager and I agree. We need to start chopping wood at the very top and replace them with some quality managers. It is obvious that they are not of the quality needed

RE: JayCo Travel Trailer + Tahoe = Aerodynamic Issues

Reese Dual Cam HP hitch and preferable a longer truck. A 28' trailer is a bit too much for a 1/2 ton short wheelbase truck.

RE: Pick-up bed size to pull a 5th wheel?

I prefer the long bed over the compromise of a short bed and a slider hitch. Many have pulled 5ers with a short bed and will not have a problem on turns, but many do break ot a window or put a ding in the corner of tha cab as well.
Plus the long bed is sure handy to haul project supplies for all of the home projects.

RE: Are There Stupid Questions?

Most of the dumb questions could be answered by RTFM...Read The Freakin' Manual. But there are lots of folks that are too lazy to read the manual.
A point to ponder....If it is called Common Sense, why is there so little of it.

RE: Hats off to the Big 3

The Big 3 do not deserve one cent of money from the government until they can present a firm business plan to right all of the wrongs and eliminate all of the overpaid top heavy management that got them in the mess in the first place. Then any funds should be a loan and not a handout.
If the Big 3 workers want to keep working, the union needs to bring their pay inline with what the workers at Toyota and Honda are making. Next they need to have a product that matches our current fuel needs.
The unions were good back when they were formed, but have outlived their usefulness. Now they breed mediocre workers that are paid the same as a worker that performs well.
